On Sunday, October 23rd, at the charming Villa Onigo in Trevignano, the DELLA TOFFOLA GROUP presented a volume that tells its life story, called “A family dream turns into an international success”.
There were numerous people in the audience and the speakers at the event included the Mayors of Trevignano Franco Bonesso, and of Montebelluna Marzio Favero, the Deputy Mayor of Treviso Gianfranco Gentilini, and the President of the Treviso Provincial Authority Leonardo Muraro.
On behalf of their family, the Della Toffola brothers wanted particularly to thank all the Group’s employees in the Veneto and Piedmont regions of Italy, in France, Spain, Chile, Argentina, America and Australia, emphasizing their fundamental role in achieving the Group’s targets.
The book tells the story of the birth and growth of the Della Toffola Group (1961-2011), a story tied to a family that wanted to change the course of its life, the story of a dream that came true. Giacomo Della Toffola, initially a blue-collar worker at the Filatura Monti in Montebelluna, and his wife Rina Mazzocato firmly believed in that dream and they opened a workshop with their sons Vittorio, Francesco and Luciano. The three brothers proved good at working together in harmony under their father's guidance. The company was established in 1961 in Montebelluna and, in 50 years of activity, it has expanded and evolved: from crafting steel products to the design and manufacture of large stainless steel systems installed and operating all over the world.
The volume is divided into chapters giving a running account of the company's adventures. Right from the start it was clear there was no lack of enterprising spirit and intelligence: an example was the first edging machine exhibited at the trade fair in Milan in 1965. Soon came the 1970s, which proved to be fundamental: the company abandoned its metal structural working to concentrate exclusively on the manufacture and marketing of winemaking machinery, i.e. crushing machines and filter presses covered entirely with stainless steel. With its move to the new factory in Trevignano, Della Toffola was ready to take on a new challenge: the production of storage tanks.
In the 1980s the company subsequently focused on manufacturing and developing centrifugal filters and rotary vacuum filters. Another revolution was underway too, involving the switch from vertical to horizontal crushing machines, which ensure a more gentle processing action. These years were also characterized by a diversification of the production range and growing interest in the water treatment industry.
In the 1990s, Della Toffola embarked on a phase of expansion in Europe (France and Spain), and Latin America (Chile and Argentina). These were the years when it began to produce and further develop its pneumatic presses, which were soon in widespread use the world over. But the innovative spirit characteristic of could the family also be seen when it was necessary to make ends meet, e.g. when they avoided investing in excessively costly laser equipment by inventing their own extremely effective numerical control plasma cutting bench that enabled the company to achieve the same results.
Innovation in filtering technology continued with the use of ceramics instead of organic materials.
The new millennium saw the Della Toffola Group continuing to expand, with new branches in Australia and the United States, and with the complete or partial takeover of several Piedmont and Veneto companies operating in the winemaking sector, which complete the Group’s range of equipment for the winemaking and foodstuffs industries with bottling and packaging lines.
Giacomo Della Toffola died on the evening of April 6th 2008 at the age of 91. It was his demise that prompted the family to retrace the company founder’s steps and made them feel the need to tell his story.
The three brothers have worked hard, striving each in their own way to make the best of their talents but always with a shared project in mind, which makes them even stronger today now that their own offspring are following in their footsteps with conviction and enthusiasm.
The book is dedicated to their parents, Giacomo and Rina.
